Discover Ancient Kamakura On a Day Trip from Tokyo

If you are wondering if you should visit Kamakura, my answer is simply yes, you should! Kamakura, Japan’s 12th century capital is charming coastal town an hour from Tokyo. Often called ‘the little Kyoto,’ Kamakura is renowned for its ancient temples, particularly stunning in spring and the Fall. It offers a unique blend of modern, artsy vibes and centuries-old spiritual traditions. Kamakura is the home of 69 Buddhist temples. One this tour we will visit several of the most famous ones, each one offering a unique experience. We will go to:

Hokokuji Temple for its enchanting Zen garden and bamboo grove with a charming tea house
Hasedera Temple for its blooming gardens, streams and ponds and the mysterious cave of Benzaiten – the Goddess of Femininity
Kotokuin Temple for the majestic statue of the Big Buddha – 11 meters high and 750 years old!

Itinerary:

I will meet you at Yokohama station – I provide detailed instructions on how to get there. FYI: Yokohama is an easy 20 minutes ride from Tokyo. We can discuss a hotel pick up, if that is what you prefer.
Go to Kamakura, a 20 min train ride from Yokohama
Get a taxi to the Hokokuji temple. Sightseeing at the temple, stroll through its beautiful Zen and bamboo grove, enjoy a bowl of matcha tea at the tea house.
Return to Kamakura Station by taxi
Take a short ride on the charming Enoden train to Hasedera Temple.
Sightseeing at Hasedera Temple and the cave of Benten, the Goddess of Femininity
Lunch at a place of your choice
Walk to KotokuinTemple to see the Big Buddha of Kamakura
Souvenir or antic objects shopping (optional) at Komachi street
Return to Yokohama where I will help you on your train to Tokyo
